1. What to expect in the next few months - Easy Projects .NET Roadmap

If you have followed our Easy Projects .NET news you probably saw that the release of the version 4.2.7 had one very important feature: the loading time of all major list pages (Projects, Tasks, Requests, Bugs) was decreased dramatically. This change could really make a difference for those who have lots of projects and tasks in their database (1000+).
If you have not updated your EP.NET to version 4.2.7, we encourage you to do this right away.

You can download Easy Projects .NET 4.2.7 at our website: http://www.easyprojects.net/downloads/

Version 4.2 is available free of charge to all users who've purchased version 4.0 or 4.1

We do not expect to release any new builds for version 4.x (except for the hotfixes if those are required). All our resources are currently concentrated on version 5.0. What can you expect from the version 5.0? - A lot!
Here are some of the things that should please you:
  • A complete GUI redesign using AJAX-technologies. The new interface will be faster, more convenient and more interactive;
  • Business Intelligence features warning about possible budget/time slippage;
  • Migration to .NET 2.0, allowing for better performance and stability;
  • Context menus providing commonly used shortcuts;
  • Quick edit mode for the Tasks lists, allowing to change task details on the fly;
  • And many others...
Since Microsoft has announced that the free version of MS SQL Server 2000 (MSDE) won't be supported by the new operating system MS Vista, we plan to migrate Easy Projects .NET to SQL 2005 by the third quarter of 2007.

If you want to view the tasks belonging only to a specific project, you can either use the "Project" filter on the Tasks page or use the "View Tasks" button on the project details page.

6. Testimonial of the Month

"I have tried many expensive project management software packages. Either the interfaces required a class (or hours of playing) or it just couldn't do what I needed to do quickly. My position crosses many IT skills (project manager, Help Desk, Operations, Network engineer, Programmer) so there is little time to spend on data entry.

Easy Projects had provided me with a system that allows me to plan/assign my projects. I like the Detailed notes section, which allow me to reference solutions later (as a knowledge base) or for historical usage. Best of all, Easy Projects allows me to see exactly where my time is going (an immediate ROI for managers).

As an added bonus, it is simple to use, has great tech support and is budget friendly, unlike other project management software. Easy Projects provides me with the ease of use, flexibility and reporting tools that are a MUST for any IT professional. Thanks Easy Projects."

7. Project Management Book of the Month

The project management book of the month is "How to Make Collaboration Work: Powerful Ways to Build Consensus, Solve Problems, and Make Decisions" by Susan Snedakerby David Straus and Thomas C. Layton.

Review by Amazon.com:
Collaboration is an everyday practice that many people find to be a frustrating, even exhausting, experience. How to Make Collaboration Work provides a remedy: five principles of collaboration that have been tested and refined in organizations throughout the world. Author David Straus shows that these methods can help any group make better decisions and function more effectively. The five principles are:
  1. Involve the Relevant Stakeholders,
  2. Build Consensus Phase by Phase
  3. Design a Process Map,
  4. Designate a Process Facilitator,
  5. Harness the Power of Group Memory.
Each principle addresses the specific challenges people face when trying to work collaboratively, and each can be applied to any problem-solving scenario.
